sality of its laws, each of the physical sciences, formed as a result of general investigation, is a proof for there being an elevated order in the universe. Each science is a light-giving proof, which, by showing the fruits of the benefits which hang like bunches of grapes from the chains of beings and the advantages concealed in their changing states, proclaims the purpose and wisdom of the Maker. Quite simply, each science is a shining star piercing the darkness and repulsing the satans of delusion and doubt. That is, each is a star that pierces and destroys those vain, absurd doubts.
Friend! Rather than investigating the whole universe in order to find the order, study the following example carefully and you will achieve your goal:
Despite its smallness, a microbe or organism invisible to the eye comprises an extremely fine and wonderful divine machine. Since this machine is a contingent being, its existence and non-existence are equally possible. Its coming into existence without a cause is impossible; it has to come into existence by means of a cause. However, such causes cannot be natural causes, because the machine's fine order is the work of knowledge and consciousness, which natural causes lack because they are lifeless. The person who claims that such a fine machine, which leaves minds in astonishment, arises from natural causes, as well as attributing the consciousness of Plato and wisdom of Galen to each minute particle of the causes, has to believe that there is communication between the particles. As for this, it is a nonsense and superstition that puts to shame even the famous Sophists.
Furthermore, the coming together in indivisible particulars of the forces of attraction and repulsion, which are held to be the basis of material causes, has been chosen, but since they are opposed to one another, their coming together is not permissible. But if what is meant by the laws of attraction and repulsion is the divine laws known as âdâtullah, and the Shari'a of Creation, which is called nature, it is permissible. Their coming together is acceptable on condition they do not pass from being laws to nature, and from existence in the mind to external existence, and from being theoretical matters to being actual matters, and from being instruments to being effective. To look on them in that way is not permissible.
Friend! If you have seen with your mind the order and regularity in the microscopic animal's, that is, the microbe's, large factory, which I have shown as an example, raise your head and look at the universe! You will see and read that elevated order in most clear and legible fashion on its pages, for it is as clear and obvious as the universe itself,
