The Istanbul Science and Culture Foundation (İİKV) signed a Letter of Intent with Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), one of Malaysia’s long-established universities, to develop academic, cultural, and scientific cooperation. The letter, effective as of November 2, 2026, was signed by Rector Prof. Dato’ Dr. Fadzli bin Adam on behalf of UniSZA and by Dr. Said Yüce on behalf of İİKV.
A Rising University: UniSZA
Located in the state of Terengganu, Malaysia, UniSZA is one of the universities that has rapidly increased its academic success in recent years. In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, it entered the world’s top 1,000 universities (in the 801–1,000 range). With roots tracing back to an Islamic education college founded in 1980, the university comprises 13 faculties in fields such as medicine, law, international relations, business, veterinary medicine, languages, and communication. The university particularly excels in the fields of Islamic finance and halal food. Approximately 1,000 international students are enrolled at UniSZA, and nearly all of them are master’s and doctoral students. Low tuition fees and an affordable cost of living make the university attractive to international students. One of the key features that sets UniSZA apart is its educational philosophy, which integrates scientific advancement with ethical values and social responsibility. The campus’s spiritual atmosphere also captures the attention of visitors.

Scope of the Collaboration
According to the Letter of Intent, the two institutions will collaborate in the following areas:
- Basic and academic research, particularly in Islamic science and culture
- Joint seminars, conferences, workshops, and other academic and cultural events
- Utilizing each other’s resources, within the framework of the institutions’ own policies, for joint research in the field of Islamic science and culture
- Joint projects involving experts, faculty members, students, and staff
- Sharing of knowledge and expertise
- Academic and staff exchanges, mutual visits
- Other areas to be jointly determined by the parties in the future
Through this collaboration, the parties aim to strengthen academic and cultural ties between Malaysia and Turkey, promote research, and deepen mutual understanding between the two countries. The letter also states that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) or other agreements will be signed as necessary to implement specific activities.

Joint Efforts for the Islamization of Science
Said Yüce, Chairman of the IIKV Board of Trustees, noted that for nearly 200 years, science has been approached from a secular and materialist perspective. Yüce stated that they are prepared to jointly carry out the necessary work for the Islamization of science. He noted that one of the Foundation’s goals for 2027 is to organize a workshop, symposium, or “retreat” reading program in Malaysia.
