Recently this month the Istanbul Foundation for Science and Culture hosted an international seminar on the subject "Islamic Theology and Culture".
A group of eight people from both Ukraine and Russia participated in the four-day seminar between the 12th and 16th of January at the foundation HQ in Istanbul. Also attending was the student of Bediuzzaman Said Nursi Mehmet Firinci as well as various academicians including Prof Dr. Alparslan Açıkgenç, Prof. Dr. Niyazi Beki, Prof. Dr. Ilham Miraç along with other students, scholars and experts.
The subjects covered at the seminars and workshops were various and included both general topics of Islam science and education along with Islamic history and culture. Within this context the Risale-i Nur was introduced and the question was presented as to whether it is a typical "tafsir" of the Qur'an or not. In addition, the life of Bediuzzaman Said Nursi was introduced and elaborated upon.
In the evenings the foreign guests from Russia and Ukraine also participated in reading circles that included the 23rd Word from the Risale as well as the Treatise On The Resurrection.
The guests found the seminar programme highly beneficial and strongly suggested that this type of programme be continued and developed in their own respective countries.
One of the guests, a professor from Russia State University for the Humanities, gave a presentation titled "The Future Of Humanity From A Nursian Perspective". In it he stated that in his Risale-i Nur, Nursi made it clear that both the conventional and religious sciences would combine together and form a path for the future. However, the professor also stated that according to Nursi this future harmony of science and religion would not just take place in Islamic societies but would also spread and benefit to the whole of humanity.
At the close of the programme, certificates and awards were given to the attendees and speakers by the representatives of our Foundation.

Representatives of the International Unit of the Istanbul Foundation for Knowledge and Culture (İİKV) attended the traditional annual gathering of the Qadiri community held in the African country of Gambia. As part of the program, the İİKV delegation came together with Sheikh Muhammad Gilani, one of the descendants of His Holiness Abdul Qadir Gilani and one of the most important spiritual leaders of the Qadiri path today. In the gathering, which took place in a spiritual atmosphere, various lessons and dhikr circles were conducted.
