Between the 13th and 14th March, 2008 an international Nursi symposium was organized in the city of Egadir in southern Morroco. Around twenty academics participated and gave presentations in the event which was co-organised by Karavin University.
Between the 13th and 14th March, 2008 an international Nursi symposium was organized in the city of Egadir in southern Morroco. Around twenty academics participated and gave presentations in the event which was co-organised by Karavin University.
In addition to the academicians in attendance there were also many keenly-interested student participants who were present in the conference hall of the Ilahiyat Faculty. The two-day conference generated such interest that the halls were full and the students present were continuously taking notes with pens in hand.
The Moroccan students and academicians contributed many questions to the Q&A session thus demonstrating their keen interest in obtaining a deeper understanding of Said Nursi’s ideas and concepts. Some students even wrote poetry based on their thoughts and feelings from attending several of the talks and presentations given in the symposium. Thus the event generated several heart-felt emotions and feelings from the participants.
The full participation of the Rector until the close of proceedings as well as the close interest taken in the guests by the university Dean added further to the auspiciousness of the event. Also throughout the conference there was a large book exhibition which featured various scholarly and academic books published on the Risale-i Nur and Said Nursi which were also on sale.
As well as the Morrocan participants, there were presentations from academicians from Turkey, Algeria, Malaysia, Syria and Nigeria.

Representatives of the International Unit of the Istanbul Foundation for Knowledge and Culture (İİKV) attended the traditional annual gathering of the Qadiri community held in the African country of Gambia. As part of the program, the İİKV delegation came together with Sheikh Muhammad Gilani, one of the descendants of His Holiness Abdul Qadir Gilani and one of the most important spiritual leaders of the Qadiri path today. In the gathering, which took place in a spiritual atmosphere, various lessons and dhikr circles were conducted.
